Go ‘Wild’ at the Larder……………

June 14th, 2011 — 6:46pm

Tucked away in the heart of the rural countryside near Cambridge, is the ‘Radwinter Wild Game Company’- Gilly & Jeremy Kiddy, farmers themselves, decided to provide a much needed outlet for local wild game. Since 2008, the businesses has taken hundreds of Pheasants, Partridges, Woodcock, Pigeons, Rabbits and Venison, all shot within a 30 mile radius of the farm.

Their standards are high- honesty and quality are the values they trade on and their generous prices reflex that.

The wild game is processed in accordance with the Meat Hygiene Regulations. Their venison is matured for seven days before cutting and their small birds are hung between 3-7 days.

June’s news……

June 3rd, 2011 — 7:10pm

June Newsletter – New in this weekend ……..New Flavours from The Saffron Ice Cream Company.

Henham Honey & Lavender is the seasonal flavour . This ice cream is very soft when eaten and has a sweet floral taste. The lavender they use is from lavender heads grown in Kent and the honey from the hives on the farm The Saffron Ice Cream Company is based – so low food miles. Reintroducing their wonderful Summer Strawberries & Cream – again using local crops and cream. Also find their Ginger, Cambridge Chocolate, in association with Raw Chocolate, and the classic Vanilla. For that ultimate refreshing experience, try a scoop or two of their wonderful sorbets – Lavender and Lemon both delicious alone but combined…………………..well ….a unique taste sensation.

Coming next week are plenty of jars of local honey for all of you us hayfever sufferers. Being spun right now and jarred in sunny Gilbert Road.

Also waiting to jump on the shelves are a new range of cheeky

preserves from a new company impressing the local foodies, ‘The Pickled Village’ cover an extensive range of marmalade’s, pickles, chutneys, conserves and even some extra ‘MissChief’ thrown in there. I have started with a modest selection :

‘Boozy Dark Breakfast’ – Dark, thick cut orange & lemon with treacle, spices & whiskey. The Scottish Breakfast, thin cut with a wee dram. Wedding Breakfast – lemon, champagne and a splash of crème de Casis, Green Fire – chilli, coriander & mint. Aubergine Caponata – aubergines, tomatoes, capers, olives, pine nuts and basil. Lastly but not least, Minted Mango Tango – chunky mango, coriander, mint & chilli’s. To find out what’s in Red Rapscallion, come in to discover – too fiery to write them here.

Lots of other ideas brewing, so if your heading down/up Mill Road please come by and chill out with some ice cream, or brave a new taste sensation!
